FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What actually happens at a tea gathering? We sit down together and drink good tea, slowly. This isn't a class, and it isn't a formal tasting. There's no curriculum and nothing you need to absorb. It's a small group of people sharing a table, a few carefully chosen brews, and the kind of conversation that only happens when nobody's in a hurry.Do I need to know anything about tea?Not a thing. Curiosity is the only prerequisite. Some people arrive knowing a great deal about tea and some have never steeped anything loose-leaf in their lives. Both belong here, and the gathering is about sharing. Will I have to talk?Only as much as you'd like to.Some gatherings are full of conversation and some settle into long, comfortable quiet. Both are welcome. If you'd rather sit and listen, that's a perfectly good way to spend the time — nobody will put you on the spot. How many people will be there?Eight at most. Small on purpose — it's what makes the table feel like a table rather than an audience. How long is the session?Ninety minutes, give or take. That's what I plan for, though gatherings sometimes run longer when the conversation is good. You're welcome to stay as long as it lasts — I'll draw things to a close by the two-hour mark. And if you need to slip away early, please do. Leaving when you need to leave is entirely in keeping with the spirit of the thing. Is this suitable for children? These gatherings are designed for adults — the pace is slow and the conversation unhurried, which isn't much fun for younger guests. If you'd like to arrange something for a family or a younger group, write to me and we'll find a way.
Where is it held?In my garden, at my home in Terrace, BC.We sit outdoors under under a canopy set among the plants. It's a private space rather than a public venue, which is part of why these gatherings stay small. What if it rains? We gather anyway. The table sits under a canopy, so rain doesn't cancel anything — and honestly, tea under cover with the rain coming down around you is one of the better ways to spend ninety minutes. Why don't you list the address? You'll receive the full address, parking notes, and directions in a reminder email 24 hours before your gathering. It's a small, intimate space, so I share the location with the people who are actually coming rather than posting it publicly. When should I arrive?A few minutes early if you can. We begin together, and arriving settled rather than rushed is half the point. What if I'm running late?Come anyway, and don't worry about interrupting.
Do I need to bring anything? No. Everything is provided — the tea, the vessels, the water, the time.Come as you are.Is there food?No meal, no — the tea is the point. That said, there's sometimes a light snack or a little fruit from the garden, depending on the season and what's ripe. Think of it as a small extra rather than something to count on, and eat beforehand if you'll be hungry.I have allergies, or I'm pregnant, or I take medication. Should I mention it?Yes — please tell me about allergies when you book, either in the notes field or by replying to your confirmation email. On pregnancy, medication and health conditions - I'm not a medical professional, and I can't assess how a particular plant might interact with your body, your prescriptions or your circumstances. Only your doctor or pharmacist can do that. What I can offer is transparency. Every blend at the table is named, and I'll tell you exactly what's in it — before it's poured, and any time you'd like to ask. If you're pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a health condition, please speak with your healthcare provider beforehand and come knowing what you'd rather avoid. And please know there's no obligation to drink anything. Passing on a round is completely ordinary here, and there's always plain hot water if you'd prefer to sit one out. You're the only person who can decide what's right for you, and nobody at this table will think twice about it.Will the tea keep me up at night? Some of what we drink contains caffeine and some doesn't. If you're sensitive, let me know and I'll steer you toward the gentler end of the table.
How much is a gathering?$30 per person, for one session.Do you offer a pass or package? Not at the moment. Sessions are booked one at a time for now — a multi-session pass may come later. How do I pay?Online, at the time of booking. Your seat is confirmed once payment goes through, so there's nothing to sort out at the door. Can I cancel or reschedule?Yes — up to 48 hours before your gathering. Use the link in your confirmation email to cancel or move to another date, and you'll be refunded in full.Within 48 hours I'm not able to offer a refund. The tea is measured and the table is set for a small number of people, so a late cancellation is a seat that stays empty. If something urgent comes up, write to me at hello@sip-ritual.com. I'd rather hear from you than not. What if the session I want is full?Write to me at hello@sip-ritual.com and I'll let you know the moment a seat opens or a new date is added. What if you have to cancel? If I ever need to cancel a gathering, you'll hear from me directly and be refunded in full, or moved to another date — whichever you prefer.
Can I buy the tea we drink?Often, yes. Many of the blends at the table are in the shop, and I'm always happy to point you toward the one you kept going back to.Do you host private gatherings?Yes, I'd be glad to.A private gathering might be a birthday, a few friends who'd like the table to themselves, a work team, or an occasion you'd rather mark quietly than loudly. The shape is flexible — we can talk through the date, how many of you there are, and what you have in mind.Write to me at hello@sip-ritual.com and tell me a little about the occasion, and I'll come back to you with what's possible. How do I hear about new dates?New gatherings are posted on the Tea Table page, and you can join the newsletter for a note when dates open.
